Geohyden offers a complete service to identify and resolve geo-environmental and contamination issues within greenfield and brownfield sites.

In order for design work to start and to reduce uncertainty, it is essential to fully assess ground and groundwater conditions prior to any development or construction project. Our full range of services addresses all key geo-environmental issues that a given site may have, ensuring that projects move forward efficiently and cost-effectively.

Our geo-environmental and contaminated land division is led by Michael McHugh. Michael is a chartered environmentalist and one of just a handful of professionals within the UK that is a CL:AIRE Qualified Person (Contaminated Land: Applications in Real Environments). We are therefore unique among consultancies in that we can offer the very highest standard of nationally recognised consultancy services.

What we do

Our key geo-environmental services include the following:

Phase I Desktop Study

Our in-house team of contaminated land and geology professionals collaborate to provide a suite of information relating to a site’s historical land use, environmental sensitivity, geology and hydrogeology.

We examine previous developments for a range of factors including industrial/commercial use, mining history, groundwater abstractions and landfill use. This information is used to prepare a conceptual model of the site as well as initial risk assessments and site investigation plans with preliminary investigation as requried.

Our desk study reports may be used to address the various stages of planning conditions and as part of our feasibility assessments.

Phase II Site Investigation

Our site investigations cover the full range of geo-environmental issues. Integrated into all of our site investigations is analysis of associated geo-environmental risks and issues such as variable ground conditions, subsidence and below surface structures.

Upon completion the phase II will determine if the site is contaminated or not in accordance with Part II(A) of the Environmental Protection Act.

*Remediation Options and Strategies

Depending on the nature of geo-environmental issues, a variety of remediation options will usually be available. Our experienced land and geological consultants work collaboratively with clients to identify the most suitable options in terms of cost, effectiveness, logistics and time constraints.

The options and strategies that we provide are accompanied by assessments that are releflective of the Best Available Techniques Not Entailing Excessive Cost (BATNEEC) and comprehensive so that cost can be accurately determined. Upon completion, we liaise with planning authorities where necessary to manage approval.

*Remediation Implementation Plans

Remediation Verification

We attend the site at key intervals throughout the remediation process to ensure compliance with the remediation strategy, collect samples and identify any further potential issues.

Once remediation works are completed, we provide a verification report to be submitted to the relevant regulatory bodies to validate the remediation works.
