Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS)
Commonly known as Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems, SUDS are required for many construction and development projects in accordance with national and local regulations.
SUDS are a series of water management practices and facilities designed to drain surface water in a way that mimics the pre-development natural runoff drainage processes and rates. SUDS help to reduce risk of floods and water pollution.
What we do
Measuring pre-development runoff rates and designing drainage systems that account for the effect of a development requires expert knowledge and experience. Our consultants have over 50 years of onsite ground-works management experience and have completed a wide array of SUDS design. We are able to provide effective SUDS solutions that are practical, affordable and meet the applicable legal obligations.
We employ a range of techniques for SUDS including:
- Water source control
- Permeable paving
- Soakaways
- Rainwater harvesting
- Greywater recycling
- Infiltration basins
- Swales
- Filter strips
- Balancing ponds
- Evapo-transpiration (e.g. using a green roof)
We provide the following key SUDS services:
- Pre-development surface water runoff assessment
- SUDS design
- Post-construction SUDS verification
- Code for Sustainable Homes: SUR1 (Surface Water Runoff) reports.
All services are accompanied by a detailed and easy-to-understand report that outlines the findings and/or strategies required to meet your legal obligations in terms of SUDS.
